The Flea

The Flea - In progress

The Flea is a Psychological fantasy story representing my complicated feelings about work culture and the concept of the 9-5. The story is inspired by an experiment in the 60s known as Fleas in a Jar or the invisible lid experiment. In this test, scientists placed several fleas in a glass jar but they quickly jumped out. He then put the fleas back into the jar and placed a glass lid over the top, The fleas began jumping and hitting the glass lid, falling back into the jar. After a while, the fleas, conditioned to the presence of the glass lid, began jumping slightly below it so as not to hit it. The scientist then removed the glass lid as it was no longer needed to keep the fleas in the jar. The fleas have learned to limit themselves from jumping beyond the height of the lid even if the lid was removed as they have been conditioned to the fact that they cannot escape from the jar.

The story follows a young man who is constantly late for his job that he hates, but one morning on his way there he stumbles upon something strange—transported to a new place he is now faced with the reality of his life and the ability to see himself in the future. He must find a way to break his cycle to change his life and save his future.
